When talking about the history of handicrafts in the city of Ilobasco, it is undoubtedly worth highlighting Dominga Herrera, who is considered one of the main promoters of handicrafts in this beautiful town.

María Dominga Herrera is considered the creator of the clay miniatures, she started in the trade at an early age. She was born in the city of Ilobasco on August 4, 1911, she began modeling clay at the age of 6 and at age 13, in 1924, she was already an outstanding miniaturist. He passed away on May 11, 1982, he is remembered with gratitude for having been a noble person who was also a master of creative technique, leaving an invaluable heritage that has influenced later generations of Ilobasque potters.

José Antonio Herrera 

We can also mention Don José Antonio Herrera, he was a great man who highlighted the name of Ilobasco and El Salvador, with his great work he created different types of crafts. He died on October 15, 2008, in the city of Ilobasco.

Don Antonio commented that he started in the field of handicrafts when he was just a few years old, along with handicrafts he also carried out his trade as a shoemaker, but he said that his passion leaned towards the elaboration of handicrafts made with clay.

He said that he learned to make artistic ceramics with the support of his family who had learned the technique with the outstanding artist Valero Lecha. He also said that he only observed and learned and that was how he learned to make his first clay figure.
